Warnings from Israel's Example: Avoid Idolatry and Temptation

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

10
Chapter 10
1 For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea. 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and they all ate the same spiritual food 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was the Christ. 5 but with most of them God was not well-pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things became patterns for us, so that we would not desire evil things, as they also desired. 7 nor be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play." 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, just as some of them committed sexual immorality and fell—twenty-three thousand in one day. 9 Nor let us put Christ to the test, just as some of them put him to the test and were destroyed by the serpents. 10 Nor grumble, as some of them grumbled and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them typologically, but they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have arrived. 12 So the one who thinks he stands, let him take care lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way out, so that you may be able to endure it.
